The new strategy for innovation development in Armenia was introduced to the Minister of Economic Development and Investments of RA Suren Karayan.
The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments of RA Tigran Khachatryan, Deputy Minister Emil Tarasyan, Team Leader of the project of GIZ “Support to SME Development in Armenia” (SMEDA) Eva Näher, as well as other representatives of the sector.
Within the framework of the presentation, the prospect of development of innovation sector in Armenia, the strengths and weaknesses of the Armenian innovation ecosystem, the existing challenges and solutions to overcome them, the ways of innovation sector development, models, tools and mechanisms have been presented.
Minister Karayan stressed the importance of the activity on developing a new innovation development strategy in Armenia, taking into consideration the significant role of the innovation industry in raising the level of competitiveness and productivity of economy and the development of new production directions.
The Team Leader of the project of GIZ “Support to SME Development in Armenia” Eva Näher mentioned that Armenia has considerable potential for the development of innovation and that the German International Cooperation Agency is ready to continue to support in order to achieve essential results in this field.
At the end of the meeting an agreement has been reached to continue the activity on the strategy development, taking into consideration the suggestions submitted during the meeting.
