Dubai set to open world’s first eco-friendly mosque

The UAE’s Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) has announced that the construction of the first eco-friendly mosque in the country is 85% complete and is set to open its doors to worshippers shortly, Gulf News has reported. The Islamic world’s first green mosque, which can accommodate 3,500 worshippers, would be the largest of its kind in Dubai, spreading across 105,000 sq ft with a built-up area of 45,000 sq ft. Integrated with the standards and specifications mandated for green buildings, the project aims to achieve the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver certification for conformance with the sustainability requirements of the US Green Building Council.
