Scientists have said what fast food and sweets do to the brain

Scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Metabolic Research in Cologne (Germany) in collaboration with Yale University (USA) found out the effect of fatty and sweet food on the brain.

According to the research published in the journal Cell Metabolism, scientists found that such food activates the dopaminergic system of the brain. It is responsible for motivation and reward, which changes the perception of food.

"Our activity measurements have shown that the brain is rewired by consuming chips and other harmful foods. It subconsciously learns to prefer just such foods. Thanks to these changes in the brain, we will always unconsciously prefer foods with a lot of sugar and fat," explains Mark Titgemeyer, the leading research of the publication, according to shantnews.

Two groups of people participated in the research. participants in the first received a small greasy and sweet pudding with their usual meals. In the other group, volunteers ate a dessert with similar calories but less fat. Over eight weeks, the researchers measured brain activity.

It is noted that during the study, the volunteers of the first group did not gain more weight, and the level of sugar and cholesterol in the blood did not change. However, researchers believe that because of the creation of new connections in the brain, it will be difficult for them to give up sweets. Even if they have not used such foods before.
