The WHO urges caution when using artificial intelligence

The World Health Organization (WHO) urges caution when using Artificial Intelligence (AI) LLM tools to protect and promote human well-being, safety and autonomy, and public health. This is stated in the statement of the organization.

LLMs include some of the fastest growing platforms such as ChatGPT, Bard, Bert and many others that mimic the understanding, processing and production of human communication. Their rapid public dissemination and increasing experimental use for health-related purposes is generating considerable excitement about their potential to support human health needs.

"The risks of using LLM as a decision support tool to improve access to health information, or even to increase diagnostic capacity in under-resourced settings, must be carefully considered to protect people's health and reduce inequities," the statement said.
