For the first time in Britain, postal deliveries were made with the help of drones

The British Royal Mail (Royal Mail) made the first postal delivery with the help of drones. This was reported by the BBC corporation.

The drones of the Skyports company have started sending letters and parcels up to 6 kilograms between the Orkney Islands (an archipelago in Scotland). First of all, it refers to the islands of Gramesei and Khoi. For now, the drone delivery operation is planned for three months, but in the future it may operate on a permanent basis. Such deliveries are expected to help avoid postal service disruptions caused by weather conditions and hard-to-reach places.

Royal Mail is using drones to "deliver to some of the most remote areas of the UK", said Chris Paxton, head of drone testing. He also emphasized that the use of drones will allow to reduce the amount of harmful substances that are thrown into the atmosphere during deliveries by conventional means.

Swiss Post and Matternet started delivering mail with drones in 2017, but stopped the service after parcels nearly fell on children. 2020 the work of drones was resumed in connection with the technical improvement of the system.
